Hey everyone,
Thanks again for stopping in with me, here at Peter’s Scribbles. I hope that all of you are enjoying a peaceful Sunday, and perhaps have some time to read.
This is a bit of a different sort of post. Of course I wanted to blast one of my own short stories, but I thought I’d share a few other writers who I’ve been reading lately, that I think you’ll enjoy. There is a wealth of great writing found here on Substack, but this is what I’ve stumbled on over the last few weeks.
I’ll go ahead and start with my own piece. This one was originally posted nearly two years ago, so many of you may not have had the chance to read it. The story was inspired in part by Jonathan Nolan’s short story “Memento Mori,” or perhaps you are familiar with the movie, Memento. I was intrigued by the idea of a man trying to piece together his life, while struggling to remember anything. I thought about my own mental illness and this story popped to life. It’s fictional, but also loosely based on my own experience in a State hospital.
Clancy is a writer whose work I greatly enjoy. He just knows how to tell my kinda story. I thought about linking one of his short stories, but maybe some of you are looking for something longer to read. If you’re in the mood for a new novel, then you won’t be disappointed with the big T. This is the first full novel I’ve read on Substack, and one of my favorite recent reads. It’s a coming of age story that you won’t want to miss. The novel also includes a soundtrack, bringing the online reading experience to another level. Well done Clancy!
Jim is just a great dude and one hell of a writer. If you enjoy crime fiction then I doubt you’ll stumble upon anything much better than Jim’s work. Great stories with twists that you never see coming. I had a few stories I wanted to link, but Jim has just completed a 10 part series, which is currently at the top of my reading list. I’ve yet to begin, but I know it’ll be one hell of a journey.
Another one of my favorite dudes here in the ‘Stacks. I featured on Ray’s Toxic Lit Podcast last year, and I can’t say enough about how great that series is. But today I want to focus on Ray’s writing. His short stories are always a pleasure read. Funny, human, and sometimes over the top, but in only the best ways. Ray’s latest piece is one not to miss.
This is a writer I need to read more of. Go no further for quality fiction, I’m always left in awe of how she crafts her narratives. I’ll definitely be diving deeper into her work in the coming months, but this piece of short fiction hit all the right notes.
Jenn’s page is different than most of the stuff I read, but I love getting to follow along with her home life through her great writing. Jenn’s page is almost set up as a personal blog where she shares her sketches. It’s a nice change of pace to read through her posts and enjoy her visual art. Can’t recommend a better way to unwind.
And last, but not least, I thought I’d share a poem from a very talented writer. Sudana features a variety of writing on her page, but today I hope you’ll enjoy this poem. I know I did.
So that’s my little list of stuff I think will brighten your Sunday. I appreciate all the support you guys show me, just being here means a lot. I hope you fellow writers don’t mind me sharing your work with the people in my life, thanks for continuing to write and show up, all of you are an inspiration. Until next time, Cheers!
good list peter! thanks for including me. i think we have similar taste
Better late than never Peter, sorry about that. Never saw it, but I don't see a lot of things these days until they've blown by and are miles gone in the rear-view mirror. I just can't keep up it seems. Thanks so much for the mention. - Jim
