It's wet, but no more rain It's morning, but not enough light I flip on the lamp, the base filled with shells Collected by loved ones Loose tobacco An ash tray A book of papers A lighter Alone with coffee Cigarettes And words Trying to conjure up the people in my life The ocean slowly scrapes and molds The memories ebbing and flowing The waves bring jellyfish to the shore I used to lounge outside On the balcony Of our apartment Drinking mostly Glancing in at your Dangling legs And playful feet. You call out to me to come inside But I just let you Sit there and watch TV. I'm sure you remember How we used to fight After I had quit another job.
