I just want to say thank you for stepping in. It meant a lot to me, and I still laugh when I remember doing that search and finding out the origins of "circle jerk". It brought a smile to my face š
Hey Elizabeth :) Thanks for leaving a comment, and I'm glad we had the chance to connect! Bringing a smile to someone's face makes it all worth it in the end <3
Just keep writing Peter, I think you have the right idea. Just do it for yourself and soon you will find the quality of your writing improves, just as time between the sticks keeps more shots out.
Side note, you need to get back on the pitch! There simply HAS to be adult leagues near you and there are ALWAYS teams looking good keepers!
I would say that playing Sunday League soccer is a fertile ground for finding inspiration to write. I think you'd find yourself with some human stories to tell.
So I plugged in your text into my little reading program I was telling you about. It took 14 minutes for it to go through the rest of the post (minus the first and last paragraphs I already read). Though some of your readers that aren't familiar with soccer probably didn't fully grasp and appreciate the story of your sophomore year. I was eating it up. I honestly hadn't thought much about that 2004 run. That was a disappointing year for me... I didn't make varsity and honestly didn't do much as a JV player when I was supposed to be one of the top dogs on the team.
It was cool to see your other insights as well but I really want to hit on the soccer thing. Pete, a couple years ago I tried to make a run to be a professional soccer player and it didn't work out. I gave it a good shot. I went to a professional tryout in New York and played with an amateur club in Alexandria. Now a days I've realized it doesn't really matter that much to be a big time player or not. Honestly, what I miss is just being a part of team that's working to improve and see how far we can go.
If you are interested I'd love to help you get back out there at give it one last go! The nice thing about goal keepers are they seem to have the longest careers! To keep things real though you don't need to make it to the top to get my respect or anyone's respect. The odds are already against you. I would love to see you become a great goalkeeper again though. I think there are a lot of people that would love to see that too. You have an incredible story to share.
Yeah Mike, I may get back out there! We shall see ;) Thanks for reading and for leaving a comment. I loved my playing days, but I do worry about injuring myself if I got back out there. I know I understand the game much more now. I'd be a different kind of Keeper. I do remember you working really hard in the last few years and it is quite inspiring. I also came to a point where I am happy being a fan of the game, but we'll keep talking. Playing again would be another way to boost my mental health. I'm not really a gym person, but I love to compete in sports...and for me, these days, there is only one real sport ha.

Thanks for reading my friend and thanks for the support. Getting out back on the pitch would certainly help in a lot of ways, I'll admit that.
Well written, Peter. It's clear that you are a keeper at heart, and that goes beyond the beautiful game. I liked this piece.
Thanks so much for giving me a read, and for your kind words!

Pete this looks awesome! I read the first and last paragraph and caught some glimpse of the rest. I'll be back for more!
Thanks Mike, don't forget you can always check out the little podcast tab too if you'd prefer to listen!
Welcome back after your hiatus! I look forward to reading your work, it is always a pleasure.
Thanks for the support man!
Perfection. Love your pieces! And you!
Love you too Lisa <3
