Peter, I love the tiny brushstrokes of scene-painting that you do: the trees, the darkness. You tell just enough to convey the falling of night, the movement of time, and the quiet beauty that surrounds the father and son, as we drop in on them before dinner. A lot has gone before, and there, as usual, is good ol' night, doin' its thing. I feel like I want to have a whiskey here, too. :-)

Such believable dialogue, feels like being a fly on the wall for a real conversation between these guys. Could hear the clicking of ice in the whiskey glasses.

Great job Peter. Not easy to capture and get the right feel of a golden moment shared with "the old man". This story reminds me in some ways of an Alan Jackson song titled 'Remember When'. Not completely, but there is a sweetness to it that is similar. Not sure how you feel about country music, haha, but do this hick a favor and try giving it a listen. It might surprise you.

Hey Jim, I don't listen to as much of the newer country, not to say there isn't good country music being made. My favorite new country music man is probably Chris Stapleton. Check him out if you haven't already.

As for Alan Jackson's 'Remember When,' I know it well. Great tune. I listened to quite a bit of country music growing up in Clarke County, Virginia. Being there really brought a lot of country to life for me. Alan Jackson, Tim Mcgraw, Phil Vassar, John Micheal Montgomery, Brooks & Dunn, Martina McBride, Shania Twain, the Chicks, and even Taylor Swift eventually...Love Country music. Cheers to being a hick!

Yes, most of the new stuff just isn't country in my opinion. Stapleton is definitely a talent but after that it's slim pickings. My personal G.O.A.T was, is and always will be George Strait. Have a good night man.

Yeah I won't argue with you there...Feel embarrassed I left George out on my list. 'Troubadour'...one of his newer songs is still on my rotation pretty frequently. Have a good one Jim.
